Progressive Muscle Relaxation Therapy
This therapy consists of tensing and relaxing muscle groups. You start by relaxing with your eyes closed focus inward to sense where you feel the most tension, you slowly start to tension each part of your body starting with your feet and end at your head.
How it helps?
When you individually focus on the feeling of tension and relaxation, this will help with reducing pain, anxiety, and lowers blood pressure. It also gives you the knowledge of controlling your muscle tension and reduces tension in your mind. This allows you to improve your ability to block inner talk, by focusing your mind on your body.
How to incorporate into your life.
This stress management is best done at night before bed. To start get into a comfortable position if possible lay on your back. Start by looking inward checking into your body take in a deep breath. While you are laying down draw your attention even more on where you feel the most tension. Squeeze the muscle in your left foot and leg then the right leg relax. Move onto your butt and core squeeze relax and soften letting go of tension. Squeeze the muscles in your left and right arm relax and soften. Relax in this state feeling for any leftover tension breathe in deep exhaling stress and tension breathing away any pain. This stress technique takes practice to control your body and mind.
